What's in the Memorial Box?

A tiny, engraved silver box in a small blue velvet case that says, “My First Curls” with a few strands of Ben’s fine baby hairs.
A beautiful Japanese hand turned wooden canister with the ashes from Ben’s “Burn Journal” which I will confess I read, and then, I burned it.
Ben’s leather wallet with his business card for the company he started when he was 17 years old: “Space Age IT - Improve your relationship with technology” offering tech services as a "Technology Tutor" for senior citizens.
A small wooden chest with Ben’s folding Ferrari aviator glasses; a bowtie made by his sister, Sarah; an iridescent “Keep Calm” button; two guitar picks; and, a wooden heart.
Lovely hand painted watercolor cards which Sarah made for Ben including:
-
“Happy Birthday – You’re 18! Enjoy being an Adult!;
-
Coupon for one (1) Butterfinger, Payday or other candy bar making session, expires 12/24/2015
-
“Sarah Dollars” for one (1) trip to the “Living Computers” museum with Sarah – expires 12/12/2017.
Neither coupon was ever redeemed.
Personal note cards from his Mom, his Aunt Jennifer and his Cousin Victoria.
A sweet little thank you card from Ben to his Mom (me) that included: “I solemnly swear to build you the arbor of your dreams. Love Ben” – which he did when he was 21 years old, and that you will walk under when we welcome you to our home later this afternoon.
A cool little tweeting bird whistle that he would take into the woods with him.
And, finally, today’s Program for Ben’s burial and memorial stone unveiling.
We are burying a box filled with love, tears and memories.
